Supporters of The Haven Wolverhampton are set to get hot under the collar this autumn as they host their charity Fire Walk on 24th November at the Round Oak in Wombourne. The Haven, a charity that supports women and children from domestic abuse and homelessness is teaming up with UK Firewalk to see if supporters can handle the heat and brave coals reaching 1200 degrees Fahrenheit!

PRESS RELEASE: Double nominations at this year’s CYP Now Awards for The Haven
The Haven Wolverhampton is proud to announce that its Children and Young People’s (CYP) service has been shortlisted twice at this year’s Children and Young People Now Awards; their Virtual Reality Project in the Mental Health & Wellbeing Award category, while CYP worker Jemma Cooke made the shortlist for the Children and Young People’s Champion.
Sophie Warren runs London Marathon to raise funds for The Haven
Sophie Warren is a legal practitioner and the granddaughter of one of The Haven’s co-founders Colin Brown. This Sunday, she will be taking on the London Marathon to raise funds for The Haven. As she prepares to take on this challenge, we had a chat with her and she shared fond memories of her grandfather, how she’s preparing for the marathon and her hopes for the end of violence against women and girls.

World Day Against Trafficking: Let the victim’s voice lead the way
Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This year the official theme from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is Victim’s Voices Lead The Way. The aim is to shine a spotlight on survivors and the importance of listening to and learning from them. Survivors are key to the fight to end abuse and violence against women and girls.
UK Government to criminalise ‘virginity testing’, but what is it?
‘Virginity testing’ sometimes referred to as ‘two-finger testing’ is a harmful violation of women and girls, an invasion of privacy, and an erosion of their human rights. Women are still being sent by men to have their virginity checked in the United Kingdom. Doctors (some registered with the NHS) have been carrying out this practice since 2012 when it was first reported, but possibly earlier.
The Haven responds to the government’s strategy to tackle Violence against Women and Girls
This week, the government has released its Tackling Violence against Women and Girls Strategy, after a Call for Evidence which received over 180,000 responses, earlier on in the year. The document outlines how the government intends to prioritise prevention, support survivors, pursue perpetrators and create a robust system.
