Are you an adventurer always looking for the next challenge? Well then WE NEED YOU to join Team Haven for our Welsh Three Peaks challenge in 2023. You could be a part of a fantastic team aiming to tackle Wales’ three highest peaks in 24 hours – all to raise vital funds for women and children fleeing domestic abuse and homelessness. Our challenge will see us cover 17 miles in distance and a whopping 2,334 metres total ascent across a 24 hour period as we climb Pen Y Fan, Cadair Idris and of course, Snowdon.
Climbing a mountain (let alone three!), can be tough. Sometimes the path ahead may not be clear, or the next step may feel too steep. To get through, your focus has to be on simply putting one foot in front of the other, remaining determined to keep going and encouraging yourself to keep taking that next step. This is much like what many of the women we support at The Haven experience on their journey away from domestic abuse. The road ahead for them can be daunting and many do not know what their future may bring, but with The Haven by their side, we can be their cheerleader, empowering them to focus on the next step ahead – no matter how scary – and encouraging them to acknowledge their bravery on their journey so far. Every step YOU take as part of this challenge will get you that little bit closer to the summit of the mountain, and with that, YOU are supporting a woman and her children to reach the summit of their journey too – a happier life free from the trauma of abuse.
We will be supported throughout the trip by some incredible mountain guides, and Team Haven and all of your fellow team mates that sign up will be on hand for the entire trip – we will all support each other to achieve something HUGE together – we hope you will choose to join the team!
Your challenge includes:
You will need to have/provide:
The meeting point for the start and end of the challenge is Oswestry – The Haven may look to arrange some transport for the group from Wolverhampton to Oswestry (this would be an additional cost and will be explored and shared with participants as soon as we have further info).
So…whether you are an individual looking for a big bucket list tick, a group of friends looking for a fun day out, or a business looking for a team building activity – this could be the event for you!
Our challenge is taking place over 24 hours on 8th – 9th July 2023 starting at 10am on Saturday at the meeting point in Oswestry (this will be an earlier time should we arrange group transport) and will finish at approx. 10am back at Oswestry on Sunday morning (subject to change dependent upon traffic/weather) – so you have all Sunday to relax and recoup!
There is a £68 registration fee – this can be paid in two instalments (both parts are non-refundable and the instalment option is only available on bookings made before 8th May 2023). You are also committing to additionally raising a minimum of £500 in sponsorship (80% of funds must be raised before the challenge takes place or you may not be able to participate). Our friendly fundraising team are on hand to support you along your fundraising journey with ideas and support – don’t be afraid to get in touch and ask any questions before signing up too – we are here to help (give@havenrefuge.org.uk).
The Haven team will be also organising some fun, pre-event training sessions for you to join in with should you wish too! (more info to follow once registered)
