Overview:
The aim of this training is to raise awareness of the issues surrounding Rape and Sexual Violence. It enables you to examine the definitions and terminology that is used. Learn how the impact and effects that Rape and Sexual Violence have on survivors and how victim-blaming constitutes the crime. It explores perceptions of Rape and challenges myths, fears, and stereotypical images surrounding the subject. Using real-life case studies to understand how Rape and Sexual Violence affect people. We aim to dispel some of the fears of workers who may be faced with disclosure of abuse and seek to equip with both strategies and the confidence to deal with disclosure sensitively and learn where to refer and source the appropriate support.
At the end of the training participants will be able to:
- Identify what is Rape and Sexual Violence (definitions and terminology).
- Understand the law in relation to Rape and Sexual Violence.
- Understand the impact and effects it has on victims/ survivors.
- Identify how to respond using a trauma-informed approach.
- Recognise the myths and attitudes of Rape and Sexual Violence and how they are damaging to the victim/ survivor.
- Locate specialist services and know-how to refer victims/ survivors.
This training is aimed at any professional whose work brings them into contact with victims of rape and sexual violence from the voluntary, statutory, and private sectors e.g., Specialist Domestic Abuse agencies, Refuge staff, Social Care, Housing Officers, Education, Police, Health and Social Care Providers, Academic Support, Criminal Justice Services, Family Justice Services, Private Fostering, community leaders.
